    Attract Sponsors and Fundraise

Attract Sponsors and Fundraise : How to Attract Sponsors and Fundraise Most host organizations need additional funds for a successful Week and you may need a financial boost to help cover staffing costs, location fees, internet connectivity, or paper and glue. Regardless of what you need, here are some tips to help Hosts build the necessary funds. Create a budget. Be able to present a basic outline of your activities financial needs to anyone who expresses an interest in underwriting your costs. Work with companies with whom you have developed relationships to fund your activities. Use your network to gain valuable exposure! Look for companies that fit with the themes of the Week, most likely they will be more interested in sponsoring. Explain to them clearly what sorts of benefits they might get as a National Sponsor. For example, profile amongst young people; branded activities; media attention; access to celebrities or government; a chance to 'give back' to the next generation. Edit your materials carefully. If your proposals, diagrams, and designs look polished, your prospective sponsor will take your ideas more seriously. Direct sponsors to http://www.unleashingideas.org for more information and to spark interest in the initiative. Alternatively, show them examples of previous campaigns (e.g. www.enterpriseweek.org), to give them an idea of what has been achieved before). Effectively organizing financial resources need not seem an impossible task. Again, recognize the importance of your existing network in fundraising. Bring your ideas for the Week to organizations and individuals with whom you are already comfortable. Try successful local entrepreneurs - they may welcome this chance to "pay it forward" to young people. You are already a proponent of creativity, innovation and persistence - the skills that will make it easiest to raise funds. Connect with possible sponsors, utilize the materials in your Host Toolkit, and emphasize the unique importance of Global Entrepreneurship Week to your country's future economic success.

    How to Find National Partners

Partner (n): Any organization willing to plan and conduct at least one activity during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Tens of thousands of organizations will join Global Entrepreneurship Week as Partners -- agreeing to conduct at least one activity some time during November 17 - 23, 2008. These will range from large organizations to small community-based groups -- and certainly include many colleges, universities, and other educational institutions. Why find partners? Why find Partners? As a country Host, one of your chief goals is to enlist active and inspirational organizations to serve as Partners, and get the youth within your country excited about entrepreneurship and innovation. It is through these Partners that you will reach thousands of young people in your country. In addition, finding Partners will help you find resources (via their connections). It helps you to magnify your media messages. It gets you access to politicians, business and entrepreneurs. It gives you credibility. And it is the main way you can multiply the number of young people taking part in your activities. What do Partners look like? These Partners need not be large organizations or have vast capital. They simply must be passionate about fostering enterprising behavior, and be willing to put on activities during the Week. Examples include, universities, schools, youth entrepreneur groups, business associations, government agencies and non-profit organizations. The activities that partners run do not need to be large in scope. They simply need to inspire people to think innovatively. They can be anything from a simple discussion about innovation to an elaborate entrepreneurial race throughout the country. Activty ideas can be found in the potential activities list located in the Host Toolkit or news ideas may come up in conversations in the Unleashingideas.org Forum. But the best ideas are the new, creative, innovative activities that are still in all of the Partners minds. How do you find Partners? Creative networking is the best way to find partners in your country. Here are some additional suggestions: Visit university campuses to attract Partners from academic departments, faculty and staff. Universities can be excellent partners as many already do entrepreneurial and inspirational activities and are well connected in their communities Attend local or global conferences and develop relationships with like-minded entrepreneurs that may be willing to have their company or organization hold an activity Use social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Orkut, MySpace or Bebo to reach out to your country's great minds without picking up the telephone Speak with local entrepreneurs' groups or small business support organizations to find Partners whose enterprising behavior has led them through start-up and on to success Have a look at the Global partners listed on UnleashingIdeas. Find out if they have local offices and see if they may be interested in coordinating with you at a local level. Make sure you're clear on what partners get from this: a chance to raise their profile, do something for young people, and get involved in a global umbrella campaign.

    One water challenge project

    ONE WATER CHALLENGE

    BACKGROUND

Over a billion people worldwide live without easy access to clean water. Two million of them die every year. And, for many of the others, getting water involves a walk of up to five hours a day.

Children who do this have no time to go to school, or learn a trade, or set up a business. This keeps them in a cycle of poverty. One Water was set up to solve this problem. A social enterprise that sells water in the developed world, One Water uses 100% of its profits to build ‘PlayPumps’ in Africa. These are playground roundabouts attached to water pumps – so when children play, the equipment pumps water from the ground into a giant tank. Children can go to school, play during their lunch break, and still take home enough clean water for their families. CONCEPT This year, One Water and Make Your Mark have teamed up to launch the One Water Challenge for schools in the UK (and possibly worldwide) for the inaugural Global Entrepreneurship Week. It’s simple. Teams of schoolchildren (aged 14-19) will be given bottles of One Water and just one month in which to sell as many bottles as possible, in as innovative a way as possible. They could get them signed by a celebrity, or turn the bottle label into a piece of artwork, or sell them at school or at their parent’s workplace. The idea is to use all of their creativity and enterprise skills to sell One Water. After repaying the original cost of the water, what they do with the profit is up to them. They can keep it, donate it to One Water, or even use it to pursue another idea. Schools will be encouraged to sign up in September and bottles of water will be delivered to students for Social Enterprise Day (Thursday November 20, 2008) during Enterprise Week and Global Entrepreneurship Week. Schools win in five ways: 1. Students get valuable entrepreneurial experience in running a business 2. Ideally, students make a charitable donation to fund water pumps in Africa 3. Students and schools keep the other half of the profits they make and will be encouraged to use them to create a sustainable social business 4. Students can make international connections, either via a dedicated website or through a school twinning programme 5. The most innovative team in each country will win a prize: a trip to Africa on World Water Day (22 March 2009) to see their pumps in action. translated by Nhan
