New Strategy for Education in Entrepreneurship in Denmark

The Government Platform, Society of Opportunities, from Nov. 2007 states that all young people at the Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) must be offered education/teaching in entrepreneurship.

In order to fulfil the Government goal, a working group has been established with representatives from the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture. The purpose of the working group is to develop a new strategy for the implementation of entrepreneurship and innovation in the educational system in Denmark. The work is carried out in close cooperation with relevant parties, organisations and educational institutions.

The new strategy plan to increase the number of entrepreneurship courses and activities targeted pupils, students and teachers and educators at all educational levels in Denmark – and particular at the HEI. The vision for the strategy is to develop a long-term and coordinated organisation of entrepreneurship education.

Additionally, the strategy will consider the need to ensure a greater link between research institutions, educational institutions and private companies in order to develop among other things new teaching methods that train and strengthen pupils’ and students’ innovative competencies.

The strategy will build on experiences from existing initiatives in Denmark as well as from foreign experiences of entrepreneurship education.

The strategy will be published by the Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation during Global Entrepreneurship Week.

    Global Entrepreneurship week in Denmark

On the 17th -22nd of November, the Danish Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs will be hosting the Entrepreneurship Week in Denmark in collaboration with a great number of partners from both private and public sector – operating on national, regional and local levels.

The campaign will focus on enterprises and education and the vision is to encourage and support entrepreneurs in Denmark, and engage people in general in the essential debate on how to support and strengthen innovation, entrepreneurship and growth in Denmark.

The ministry has put down a campaign secretariat situated in the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority, which is currently – in collaboration with all the partners in the campaign – working on putting together an exiting programme.

So far the plan is to set off by a summit hosted by the Minister of Economic and Business Affairs who will invite a number of influential top leaders and key stakeholders from other sectors to debate on entrepreneurship. Several new analysis and initiatives on entrepreneurship will be published by the Ministry of Econimic and Business Affairs at the summit, followed by a number of national and regional events during the week.

The Danish Foundation for Entrepreneurship, Activities and Culture, The International Danish Entrepreneurship Academy and Øresund Entrepreneurship Academy will arrange a number of national activities focusing on education and entrepreneurship, and the regional events will be organized by the Business Link Denmark focusing on five main topics: Financing, Human Resource and Management, Sales and Marketing, Technology and Innovation and Internationalization.

These are just some of the partners and ideas for the campaign. If you want to join the campaign, run an event or just share your thoughts, don’t hesitate to contact the secretariat:

Søren Tholstrup, head of the secretariat: sth@ebst.dk

Dorte Kaiser, head of PR: dka@ebst.dk

The danish campaign site will be launched in August.
