Event Description:
Social enterprises refer to not-for-profit entrepreneurial ventures run by social entrepreneurs. Social entrepreneurs are individuals who recognize the existence of social problems and aim to alleviate these problems through the use of creative business and entrepreneurship principles.
Some prominent social enterprises in Singapore include Bizlink Centre, Teen Challenge Enterprises, Gift and Take, Dignity Links (which operates Barista Express), Food #03, Food for Thought, School of Thought, O School, and ECO Singapore.
In line with Global Entrepreneurship Week 2008 (GEW’08), NUS Business School Alumni Association will host a forum featuring several prominent social entrepreneurs and various companies that are active in corporate social responsibility projects. At the forum, various speakers will share with us their rich experiences in running or partnering social enterprises, and how such social enterprises or collaborations enrich the lives of the less privileged.
Who says enterprises are all about profit and loss?

TechLicensing Fair 2008:: Energy & Environment features an exciting IP marketplace that showcase a list of emerging technologies available from licensing, spanning photovoltaic, power management, green buildings, clean energy, waste management and clean water. These innovations are brought together by a global network of Technology Partners including Agency for Science, Technology And Research (A*STAR), Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Max Planck, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, Oxford University, Purdue University, Stanford University, amongst others. The event also featured Technology Licensing Workshops where licensing professionals share their experiences and best practices in technology commercialization.

Become the JA Titan of Industry!
Run a virtual company and compete in a computer-simulated business environment. Whether this means running your business into the ground or to high efficiency based on the quarterly business decisions you make about your product’s price, production level, marketing, R&D, and more. Sink or swim, you walk away understanding critical business practices and the effect management decisions have on a company’s success.
Morning workshop to discuss each of the key business decisions – product price, production, research and development, marketing, capital investment, and charitable giving.
Competition in teams of 4 will be held in the afternoon to crown the JA Titan of Industry!
JA Titan provides practical information about business and the economics of life.
Morning workshop – the following key topics related to running a business will be discussed:
- Price
- Production
- Research and Development
- Marketing
- Capital Investment
- Charitable Giving
The students will learn how the different key business decisions will affect their company’s optimal efficiency. They will practice using these decisions in a computer simulation and will be taught what they need to know to possibly become the ultimate Titan of their industry.
Competition will be held in the afternoon. Though the students are taught all the concepts, they will need to develop their own strategies for success and win.
Maximum number of student = 96
Maximum number of teams = 24
Number of students per team = 4
Grade: Sec 3 to JC2 or Poly 3rd Year
Material requirement: one computer / laptop per team

International Business Forum 2008 - with focus on the family -

Jointly organized by Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Malay Youth Literary Association (4PM) and Spirit of Enterprise (SOE), and supported by International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) and the Franchising & Licensing Association, Singapore (FLA), we will be gleaning, from the sterling line-up of panel speakers, invaluable insights on managing and transforming local and family businesses to meet the challenges in the 21st century.
The objective of this forum is to enable participants to recognize the importance of family businesses within the global economy. This forum will cover the discussion of a wide spectrum of issues facing family businesses, including maintaining healthy family relationships based on trust and strong family values, the roles that business owners play and encouraging youths to participate in growing family businesses to ensure the continuing success of these family businesses that drive Singapore’s economy.
Speakers will also share on their strategies in internationalising their businesses to remain relevant and competitive.
There will also be a segment on the essential role of IE Singapore and the suite of programmes to help enterprises venture overseas.
