sewing.jpgI recently read a fascinating article about garment making– not my usual reading, but a girl has to branch out on occasion. This article compared the 2 major hubs of garment manufacturing Cholet, France and New York City, NY to find how they had sustained the industry in face of difficulty. It seems that the two locations have two very different models.

NYC has employed what the authors term a “Sweatshop Model” that is a model in which they stay alive in the face of globalization by becoming hyper-efficient. Cholet, however, is surviving not through hyper efficiency but rather through entrepreneurial endeavors. (more…)

Nolcha and Global Entrepreneurship Week

Sometimes you run into a person who is just cooler, hipper more energetic than you. For me this is rare……..okay well the more energetic part is rare…… However, Kerry Bannigan the founder of Nolcha is all of those things. Plus, she is beautiful, fun, smart and devoted to discussing the industry side of fashion. It is her energy that has been pivotal in creating the partnership between Global Entrepreneurship Week and Nolcha.

 

We are pleased to announce that Nolcha just announced their partner activity for the Week! They will run Independent Retail Week during Global Entrepreneurship Week in order to highlight the role of the entrepreneur in fashion! (more…)

Nolcha FashionIt’s not all about ruffles, haute couture must haves, or waifishly thin models. Its also about business and fashion is a huge business- a 90 billion dollar business, in fact. This means that there is a lot of room for new business, for business failures and for power house old world names.
