Bingo just got better….

Monday, May 12th, 2008

bingo.jpgDoes it seem like everything has been done? Do you feel like you have no new ideas? Sometimes, being an entrepreneur isn’t about pushing the boundaries and re-tooling something new. Rather, when you hit a dead end why not try making something old new.

In LA, a new trend has become board games at bars; bingo is no longer just for summer camp. What old thing can you use and market in a different way? Perhaps SkipIt, Pong or plastic flowers. From our LinkedIn Friend

“The problem with starting a startup while you’re still in school is that there’s a built-in escape hatch. If you start a startup in the summer between your junior and senior year, it reads to everyone as a summer job. So if it goes nowhere, big deal; you return to school in the fall with all the other seniors; no one regards you as a failure, because your occupation is student, and you didn’t fail at that. Whereas if you start a startup just one year later, after you graduate, as long as you’re not accepted to grad school in the fall the startup reads to everyone as your occupation. You’re now a startup founder, so you have to do well at that.”

But the next great entrepreneurs are not just web based, or are they young computer geniuses. The next generation of entrepreneur is also the extreme sports athlete. It’s the moto-x rider that not only takes his bike off fifty foot jumps but also runs a clothing company. Or the snowboarder that was tired of the up-tight hotels and created his own hotels made and run by snowboarders.
