There is no “I” in entrepreneur

entrepreneurs.jpgSo, I was provoked this morning by a new study- I know rare, eh? You think all I do is read quirky articles and tangentially relate them to entrepreneurship? Well occasionally I read reports, real ones, the kinds written by people who have more letters after their name then I. (Sometimes I wish I was Kristina Libby Sr. , III– really then I would have more than enough letters…….ahhh, occasionally I loose even myself).

So, the new study called the Future Face of Enterprise (which for the sake of full disclosure was written in part by our UK Host’s Make Your Mark) told me that a.) less and less often are entrepreneurs loners and that b.) their work environment and personal time are becoming more and more important. Culminating in the realization that we are no longer entrepreneurs only for the money but rather more for the lifestyle it can help them lead and the means it provides for giving back to society. Tips for the New Entrepreneur!

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

melanie-notkin.jpgSince, I started blogging for this site, I find that I read a lot of other people’s blog. I like this one in particular, mainly because reading her blog feels like you are reading a letter from a girlfriend. In that ways its non-threatening, supportive and informative. I also thought I should share this blog post with you all. She lists 20tips for the new entrepreneur but I’m only reprinting 10 for the rest check out her site and see what you can learn!

1. Every night before you go to sleep, write down your To-Do list for the next day. I recommend adding www.netvibes.com as your personalized internet homepage. Not only can you manage your to-do lists, but you can get all your daily news and blog reading done in one place. (see item #7) (more…)

Are you lonely?

Monday, May 5th, 2008

What is the worst thing about being an entrepreneur? Long hours? Failures? Uncertainty? I’d say its being alone most of the time. The thing with your grand ideas is that they are yours and in your own head. Others aren’t always supportive and frequently they try to bring you down. How do you fight this? I’d say get together with other entrepreneurs, find people in the same space and with the same problems. Where, does one do this you ask? Well, you can do it through our website, our social media groups or you can do it in person, in June, in the city of lovers. (more…)

New Age Entrepreneur

magness.jpgThere is something about being a pioneer in the field of yoga that rails against what we assume entrepreneurs to be. To begin with yoga seems too spiritual to be a field for innovation. It seems so old as to be incapable of being revolutionized. Jason Magness didn’t let any of those views stop him. He has revolutionized yoga into an extreme sport by creating a yoga practice which can be done while suspended in the air. (more…)

Sometimes you run into a person who is just cooler, hipper more energetic than you. For me this is rare……..okay well the more energetic part is rare…… However, Kerry Bannigan the founder of Nolcha is all of those things. Plus, she is beautiful, fun, smart and devoted to discussing the industry side of fashion. It is her energy that has been pivotal in creating the partnership between Global Entrepreneurship Week and Nolcha.

We are pleased to announce that Nolcha just announced their partner activity for the Week! They will run Independent Retail Week during Global Entrepreneurship Week in order to highlight the role of the entrepreneur in fashion! (more…)

A Fashion Entrepreneur

cricket.jpgI hate shopping for pants. My Mom actually refused to go jean shopping with me when I was a teenager. Its just that they all fit differently. No pair of jeans is the same length or fit; a size 6 is rarely ever the same size at a different store. As a teenage, I really had no idea what size of pants I wore. Plus, I grew up in small town New England and my pant options were limited with sizing options never exactly right. Why, you ask would I bother to share this?

Global Entrepreneurship Week Asks: What Makes A Great Entrepreneur?

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Entrepreneur comicHere’s a little secret: I would love to be a great entrepreneur. I would love to have my own company, dynamically shape new and emerging markets and profit from my innovative nature. However, there is a big difference between people who are entrepreneurs (Bill Gates, Guy Kawasaki, Bakery Owners) and people who would love to be entrepreneurs (me).

Billionaire

I was born to be a billionaire entrepreneur. I think. I certainly was born to fly around the world on my own private plane, to swim with sea turtles off my own island, to spend all day shopping at haute couture ateliers.

Global Entrepreneurship Week Promises to Not Devolve into a Fashion Blog

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

fashion.jpgBrenden, here at Global Entrepreneurship Week HQ, likes to remind me that this isn’t a fashion blog. I, being a little smarter than he gives me credit for, know this (have you seen articles about leggings or Fashion Week? Not yet). Yet, while I spend all day reading blogs about entrepreneurship, interacting with aspiring entrepreneurs, looking at videos on YouTube about innovation, I keep stumbling upon fashion articles, fashionistas and fashion shows.
