Catching up; Hong Kong

October 08, 2008 | Posted by: Oli B

I’ve been catching up with Kathy Yeung, from Incubator, who organised a terrific event in Hong Kong last week;

OB:  Kathy, tell us, briefly, what Incubator does?

KY: Incubator Limited is a hybrid social enterprise (profit and non-profit)
which was founded in 2006. We incubate line managers through providing
“co-creative coaching” training to corporates. The manager, who is currently
running a social enterprise at an NGO is empowered under these practical
training sessions. Moreover, we are the first player in Hong Kong to have
designed a social entrepreneurial learning program for young adults. We
believe with our experiences, we can make a good planning and strategy
on launching events such as Global Entrepreneurship Week.

OB:  Excellent! Now,  how are plans shaping up for Global Entrepreneurship Week?  What have you got planned and who are you working with?

KY: We have invited different organizations to join, in order to spread  the idea and encourage more people from different groups to share varies activities.
Incubator has successfully invited Hong Kong Policy Research Foundation to hold a series of events together with 9 organizers, included: Bright China Group, Extemporaneous Medley, HKU Center of Development & Resources for Students, Hong Kong Policy Research Institute Ltd., Hong Kong Social Entrepreneurship Forum, Hong Kong Women Professionals & Entrepreneurs Association, Roundtable Community, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, Social Ventures Hong Kong.

All the Organizers will cooperate to launch 9 activities from 16th-23rd, November.

OB:  Blimey, that’s a huge amount of activities!  Tell us about your Whistlestop event?  How was it?  What sort of people came?  What was the feedback like?

KY: The Whistlestop event in Hong Kong was launched successfully at InnoCentre. People from different fields and working background came to discover innovation about Social Enterprise and SpeedNetworking. Those participants included teachers of University, Secondary Schools and even public speaking and speech trainer; professionals of business sector, banks , an advertising company, a pay TV channel, a beauty company and a marketing company.

Most of the participants thought that the speednetworking event was fun and successfully encouraged them to think of different probabilities to add the concept of social enterprise to their business running direction. The sharing of Oli Barrett was really clear and amazing in encouraging them to promote this idea to their friends and youngsters.

OB:  Thanks Kathy - that’s another drink I owe you!  How can people get involved with what you’re doing in Global Entrepreneurship Week?

KY: Incubator together with those organizations mentioned above are promoting all the activities through posterS, websites and invitation emails. People can contact any of us to join. Besides, we welcome people walk-in to join our activities.

OB:  Perfect!  Any final messages for the reader of this blog?

Don’t miss the chance to join the activities! Above all, you can brain-storm with many other people through speednetworking!
