4- Hour Work Week…. Sounds good, eh?

13697117.JPGOn Friday, I found a copy of Tim Ferriss’ 4-Hour Work Week. On Saturday, aboard a plane to Boston, I thought I’d skim its contents. On Sunday, I had not only skimmed the book but finished the entire thing, reading every line. On Monday, I quit my job.  (Okay not quite— if I left who would blog for you everyday?!)

Tim’s book is the Bible for the Millennial generation. For kids who want flexible work schedules, meaningful work and a lifestyle to rival the Beckhams’, this is pay dirt. Ferriss  advocates streamlining our lives, embracing technology and living globally. In short, he is the new age global renaissance man.. He makes his money online; he lives abroad renting homes in foreign nations with American currency; his travel plans are dictated as much by his learning goals as by the culture of his destination (Spanish in Spain, German martial arts in Berlin, Salsa lessons in Argentina).
More so, he encourages the reader to free themselves from the fetters of work for works sake (W4W as he calls it). He encourages people to take mini-retirements, to find a way to own businesses not manage them, to automate and outsource your own lives.

I think any entrepreneur should read his book before or during your journey because he makes you realize two things.

1.) You need to have a vision of the end— how will you remove yourself as a cog from the process of your business?

2.) Being an entrepreneur shouldn’t be the thing that defines you solely— you need to realize why you are becoming an entrepreneur and what you hope to achieve.

I found this book so necessary to all people that I would like to offer 5 copies to the first people who respond to this post. Tim gave us a few extra copies last year and I would like to put them to good use. Just email me at Klibby [at] unleashingideas [dot] org.

    Hello,

I’m Alison from Singapore and I’m 20 this year. I have always been wanting to start my own business, however I would be starting school soon. Do you think it is possible to start my own business while studying?

    With regards,
    Alison
