Brazil means bikini bodies and dark dark tans or….

carnival.jpgBrazil could be the hottest (literally and figuratively?) new place to move for the 20-somethings who want to experience the world, make their mark and be part of a dynamic fast moving economy. Paul Kedrosky brings this up in two of his recent blog posts– one on his site and one on as a guest blogger. There are a lot of things to hold one back from moving there (i.e. government corruption, high crime rates and the hot hot heat) but their are also a lot of benefits most of which he mentions, some of which he forgets— girls who look like Giselle Bundchen, should probably be added, as should teeny bikinis, the existence of the Amazon, Carnival, wonderful beaches and an all around jovial people.

Interestingly enough, the feedback on his posting also listed places like Canada, Dubai, Inner India and Australia. (more…)

earthworks.jpgSo you may be inundated with hundreds of emails a day, crazy assignments and in general piles of reading. I know I am. Sometimes its nice to just look at a picture and understand everything you need to know.

The organizers of Earthworks 2008, probably believing agreeing with my above point, hosted a global cartoon competition. They believe that art and humour are simple ways to raise awareness of global warming and in general, get the message across. In the past year, they had hundreds of individuals submit cartoons dealing with the message of global warming from a variety of countries: Brazil, China, England, Burma, Romania and China. Each person had a unique view on how climate change was effecting their environment and the world. The winner “Coat Star” by Mikhail Zlatkovsky from Russia, shown here, “held a particularly poignant message, the judges felt, showing humanity in the form of a man indecently exposing himself to a pristine universe.” (The Independent, 2008) (more…)

Podcasts: The Easiest Way to Learn

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Hey guys. Now regardless if you are an expert or beginner you’re probably like me: you want topodcast find out more about entrepreneurship and sometimes you can’t resist a great story about an innovative entrepreneur. Yet the problem for you and I is that we are busy!! I mean super busy. We don’t have time between work, school, home, friends, family, travel, conferences, watching The Daily Show, or whatever else, to sit down and read articles. But there’s an answer for busy people like us: podcasts!

Podcasts are maybe the easiest and most time effective way to learn about entrepreneurship. I-tunes features a variety of great podcasts and even lectures by business entrepreneurial leaders (Google, Chevron, Kauffman Foundation) in the I-tunes U section. And they are by definition completely free. These podcasts range from about 5 to 50 minutes and provide a great easy bite sized way to learn about entrepreneurship through lectures, interviews, stories, etc. (more…)

mosquito.jpgSo here’s a problem: California is developing a massive mosquito problem. I, being from Maine, know a thing or two about mosquitos. They grow larger in my home state than anywhere else, there are more of them and they can be a deterrent from doing things you normally enjoy. In short, having a mosquito problem is a huge problem.
So why is this problem popping up in California? (more…)

A-Haw!

whomovedmycheesecover.jpgWhile reading a recent Kauffman Foundation report, I was reminded of an amusing, little book entitled, Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson. It is a motivational story about two miniature humans, Hem and Haw, who live in a maze and survive only on cheese. One day, in their typical quest for food, Hem and Haw happen upon a cheese-filled corridor. After setting up camp they soon become content with their find, and establish routines around the supply of cheese. At first they act as if the supply will never run out and are comforted by regularity, since they are afraid of change. When the supply of cheese becomes noticeably smaller, Haw decides to break free from his constrictive mindset and sets out in search for new cheese. Hem remains complacent and fearful of change. Towards the end of the story Haw finds a new supply of cheese and due to his past experience continues to explore the maze, preventing complacency. (more…)

Get Up!

“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer -” Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari and Chuck E. Cheese’sllama.jpg
