Make It Rain Money
Let’s really break it down, here. I am a endless consumerist. I buy things all the time. I know that this is disgusting and senseless but I can’t help it. I’m also a sucker for buying things that will help people. So when GAP’s (PRODUCT) RED line came out, I used it to justify purchases. When things have the breast cancer ribbon on the label I buy. I fall into that category of purchasers that social marketing people love to target. In short, I’m a sucker.
So, I’d like to change that. I’d like to buy the same things while still doing good things. Therefore, I’d like to take part in a Carrotmob and protect my pocketbook. Oh, what’s a Carrotmob, you ask? Well, a carrotmob is a new thing started by this guy Brent who lives on the West Coast of the US. His thought was to make businesses want to be more environmentally friendly by leveraging the power of consumer purchasing. Their example can be seen at the bottom of the page.
So, it would mean that I could buy all the normal things I like while contributing to the fight against global warming. Awesome. Not only does this show a real entrepreneurial spirit, it also shows a really innovate means of tackling climate change. You use simple logic that businesses will change for money and exploit it— BRILLANT!
So, here is what I propose. Why not host a Carrotmob as your activity during Global EW? Let’s take his logic further and take it global. These mobs are relatively easy to plan, easy to execute and are effective on the small scale and potentially the global scale. Plus their may already be . I’m trying to get in touch with him to learn more so that you can know more. In the meantime, I bet you could start planning for one to occur in your area during the Week.
At least, if I took part in this, I’d feel a little bit smarter and a bit less of a sucker.
