Interview with an Entrepreneur: Alexander Heffner of Scoop 08

Friday, April 11th, 2008

I really love it when someone changes the way I view the world. In a recent interview I held with Alexander Heffner of Scoop08, he did just that.

Things I believed: journalism was on its way out, youth don’t really want to read about politics, entrepreneurs see themselves as entrepreneurs first. Actually, Alexander, a high school senior at Phillips Academy, showed me that those things just aren’t true.

Scoop08 is a student run and written online political daily covering this year’s election. Launched last November, the paper has covered a myriad of topics in a way that has proven to be interesting to young people. It has also created a dialogue among our youth. By using new media technology, Scoop08 is allowing for instant reporting and instant feedback. Its allow kids with a voice and real opinions to have a spot to air those opinions. It’s proving that just because you’re too young to vote or a first time voter doesn’t mean you are too young to care. (more…)

Never too Young!

university.gifI have recently been speaking with a professor at the United Kingdom’s University of Buckingham who runs a program where students obtain a BSc in Business Enterprise. He’s a partner with our UK host and works with Make Your Mark. Interestingly, the BSc program requires students to start and develop their own business as they study for their degree. magness.jpgThere is something about being a pioneer in the field of yoga that rails against what we assume entrepreneurs to be. To begin with yoga seems too spiritual to be a field for innovation. It seems so old as to be incapable of being revolutionized. Jason Magness didn’t let any of those views stop him. He has revolutionized yoga into an extreme sport by creating a yoga practice which can be done while suspended in the air. (more…)

Plus, she is beautiful, fun, smart and devoted to discussing the industry side of fashion. It is her energy that has been pivotal in creating the partnership between Global Entrepreneurship Week and Nolcha.

We are pleased to announce that Nolcha just announced their partner activity for the Week! They will run Independent Retail Week during Global Entrepreneurship Week in order to highlight the role of the entrepreneur in fashion! (more…)

Startup Wear T-shirts

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

So I think these shirts are hilarious and all these guys really want to do is buy a Gulfstream (pilot and fuel included)…….. Who wouldn’t want to support that? Check out their pitch too. It’s amusing, does the job and basically immediately sells the concept and the creators while being hip. I read it for 20 seconds and wanted to support them. Does your pitch do that?
