Never too Young!

university.gifI have recently been speaking with a professor at the United Kingdom’s University of Buckingham who runs a program where students obtain a BSc in Business Enterprise. He’s a partner with our UK host and works with Make Your Mark. Interestingly, the BSc program requires students to start and develop their own business as they study for their degree. Such an idea, he explained, is novel among UK and European higher education curriculum.

The program started in 2006 and has had one graduating class, with another in progress. Students in this year’s class have developed businesses selling custom party bags, photography, and novelty products.

The program has lengthy requirements and seems to be a consuming endeavor. However, the chance to begin your own business while still in the safety of a classroom appears priceless. What could be better than being pushed to succeed while still having the room to fail? Encouraging students to succeed is pivotal to pushing innovation. As young people we offer new perspectives and fresh voices. Allowing people these opportunities to create business will only enhance their ability to be more entrepreneurial and more innovative.

Check out these young CEOs to see that fresh ideas often come from new and untapped minds.

Do you think this program will work and produce great entrepreneurs or do you think its merely instilling b-school techniques in undergrad students?
