Anything Can Make you an Entrepreneur

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I’m always surprised by how people become entrepreneurs in unexpected ways. I found Dave Della Terza’s story in the New York Times compelling and that you all might as well. His idea didn’t start with a plan for business but had such following that it developed into a business and a successful business at that. Might your ideas also be profitable? It could be worth trying them out “softly” and later seeing if there is a way to monetize them. Why not engage your passion and then perhaps you will find your passion pays?

Vinod Khosla

Description: Launching a start-up is not a rational act. And Vinod Khosla, a partner in Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and former Sun Microsystems CEO, believes that success only comes from those who are foolish enough to think unreasonably. Entrepreneurs need to stretch themselves beyond convention and constraint to reach something extraordinary.

water.jpgI recently attended a lecture by Jonathan Greenblatt, co-founder of Ethos Water, and found out about an interesting opportunity for innovators. Paul Faeth, the Executive Director of Global Water Challenge who attended the conference and was praised by Greenblatt, told me about a challenge they are posting in conjunction with Coca Cola. A Fashion Entrepreneur

cricket.jpgI hate shopping for pants. My Mom actually refused to go jean shopping with me when I was a teenager. Its just that they all fit differently. No pair of jeans is the same length or fit; a size 6 is rarely ever the same size at a different store. As a teenage, I really had no idea what size of pants I wore. Plus, I grew up in small town New England and my pant options were limited with sizing options never exactly right. Why, you ask would I bother to share this?

Why Bother Having A Resume?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Seth Godin, on his blog, argues that resumes are passe. I tend to agree with him in the sense that tangible expressions of yourself or your reputation are always more valuable than what you can write about who you are. How many of you have blogs in your field or sophisticated online projects? Let us know and we will feature some of the best here on Global Entrepreneurship Week’s blog!
