A Fashion Entrepreneur

cricket.jpgI hate shopping for pants. My Mom actually refused to go jean shopping with me when I was a teenager. Its just that they all fit differently. No pair of jeans is the same length or fit; a size 6 is rarely ever the same size at a different store. As a teenage, I really had no idea what size of pants I wore. Plus, I grew up in small town New England and my pant options were limited with sizing options never exactly right. Why, you ask would I bother to share this?

Well, you may have noticed the cover article on the Wall Street Journal’s Journal Report this morning was about an inspiring entrepreneur. Cricket Lee has over the past 6 years been on a rampage to develop a standardized fit measure for the clothing industry. Her concept was to develop fit measures based on women’s body types and then standardize this across all aspects of the fashion industry. If this works, a 4.1 ( the 1 is the body type) would be the same in every store you shopped in. Thus, this would eliminate the eternal problem of having a different clothing size in different stores- frustrating for every woman shopper.

The WSJ brought up a few lessons for aspiring entreprenuers taken from Ms. Lee’s story:

1.) Raw persistence can open doors

2.) Strategic planning is crucial .

3.) You must be as patient as you are ambitious.

Her article is a true tale of grit and mild success. We here at Global Entrepreneurship Week hope that her concept will take off. For once, I’d like to know my pant size without having to think about what store I’m walking into.
