Chilren’s ArtToday Global Entrepreneurship Week found a soul mate in the International Child Art Foundation (ICAF). ICAF works to connect youth with art to increase their ability to be innovative and creative- goals which parallel that of the Week. ICAF celebrates youth art through an Art Olympiad held every 4 years, the World Children’s Art Festival, Peace through Art, etc. They urge children from various disciplines and geographic locations to pursue artistic endeavors. In short, ICAF was the first and still the world’s largest organization to unleash the power of children’s creative genius in art. The work these youth are doing is astounding.

Entrepreneurs for the NeXt Generation

Extreme SurfingOften times when someone says the word entrepreneur we think of small business or dot coms. But the world of entrepreneurship and innovation spans a much larger array of ventures. In a way, entrepreneurship knows no bounds. Yes, in today’s market many entrepreneurs are moving to the internet, selling their goods to billions of people across borders or simply starting the next great social network. But the next great entrepreneurs are not just web based, or are they young computer geniuses. The next generation of entrepreneur is also the extreme sports athlete. It’s the moto-x rider that not only takes his bike off fifty foot jumps but also runs a clothing company. Or the snowboarder that was tired of the up-tight hotels and created his own hotels made and run by snowboarders.

The Clothes ON Your Back

As we develop and organize Global Entrepreneurship Week we not only come across some really cool organizations and institutions that help encourage people to think innovatively and creatively but often come across people that already think innovatively and creatively. One such organization is called Design By Humans. This company started by two brothers and their friends in California isn’t just a place to buy new tshirts. But it is a place for artists and regular Joes alike to submit their ideas for tshirt designs and have the Design by Humans community vote on the best designs. The winning designs not only win a cash prize but also get residuals for each tshirt sold through the site.

Think Globally, Act Locally

Earlier this week myself and couple other members of the Global Entrepreneurship Week team flew toCapitol Building Houston, Texas to facilitate a town hall for U.S. Congressman Nick Lampson on entrepreneurship and economic development in his district. At the meeting we made sure to let all the participants know about Global Entrepreneurship Week and encouraged them to visit www.unleashingideas.org to learn more about the Week.
