Adding a Little Green to the World
It is on the tip of everyone’s tongue, alternative energy, green technology and cleantech. Whatever you may call the new emerging technology, it can not be denied that the idea is everywhere. Even the Nobel Prize was recently awarded to a group of people that have advanced cleantechnology and have been working to make the world a better place.
I recently ran across an article in the National Dialougue of Entrepreneurship that touched on this exact topic. The article specifically highlighted the history of green innovation in California – starting with its focus on energy efficiency in the 1970s and moving into the second wave of innovation targeting development of clean energy technology.
“In relative terms, California is more energy efficient and emits fewer greenhouse gas emissions per person than the rest of the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom or Japan.” California Green Innovation Index - 2008
But is California truly the world leader in energy efficiency? There are many countries and even cities across the world that claim to be the leader in cleantechnology or have the left the smallest carbon foot print. During Global Entrepreneurship Week we are making sure to tap into the world’s interest and passion in green technology by making cleantech an official vertical during the Week. As we learn more about the activities being planned by our Partners, we’ll shine a spotlight on those focused on developing new energy solutions.
Other verticals are being planned and considered, if you have any suggestions, let us know.
